Egg Crate Foam Sound Proofing

Do It Yourself Resources by eFoamstore.com

Designed to control the acoustics and reverberation characteristics of recording studios, our egg crate foam will greatly assist in reducing reverberation, reflections and flutter echoes.

Why use Egg Crate Foam for Sound Proofing?

Egg crate foam is recommended if you want the good sound deadening qualities of wedge foam, but at a budget-conscious price.  Egg crate / convoluted foam's style keeps its price low, yet allows it to absorb sound very well for the price.  Egg crate foam is also a good choice for people who want to cover their sound deadening foam with acoustical cloth.

Sound proofing egg crate foamThe goal of acoustical treatment is to eliminate problems from parallel hard surfaces that reflect sound waves. Another goal to keep in mind is to stop unwanted sound from entering or exiting the room.

  • Sound Isolation: Generally, noise is isolated by using heavy materials to block the noise. Sound absorbing materials may also be used within wall cavities to reduce unwanted structural resonance.

  • Sound Absorption: Noise absorbing materials are designed to improve sound quality by reducing and controlling echo and reverberation.

  • Sound Diffusion: Diffusers are designed to distribute sound evenly throughout the room, and prevent dead spots, where sound cannot be heard clearly.

Egg Crate Foam Soundproofing Applications:

Car soundproofing, boiler room, church soundproofing, compressor soundproofing, sound booths, conference rooms, control rooms, engine rooms, home theaters, gymnasiums, home studios, boat soundproofing, RV, home office, radio broadcasting, recording studio, isolation booth

Egg Crate Soundproofing Tools:

Some tools that you may need to sound proof a room are:

  • Spray adhesive
  • Staple gun
  • Glue gun
  • Caulking gun and standard caulk
  • Hammer and nails
  • Standard duct tape
  • * any of the above tools can be used to apply egg crate foam
Step 1
  • Attach egg crate foam to the walls. Simply glue / staple / nail the egg crate foam to the walls.
Step 2
  • Seal in the windows with cardboard.  Stuff several layers of cardboard in the window from the outside to create a sound baffle. Secure the whole cardboard with tape.
Step 3
  • Use scrap paper or rags to fill any any gaps around / under the door.  Wedge the rags or paper into cracks and tape with duct tape.

Sound Proofing Tips:

  • Use the thickest sheetrock you can in the room; the mass helps block sound.
  • Create a drop ceiling or false ceiling, attach furring channels to your existing ceiling and hang a bunch of sheetrock panels from them. The dead air space between the original ceiling and the new one creates a sound-trapping chamber.
  • Replace hollow-core doors with heavy solid-core doors to minimize sound transmission through the door bodies.
  • Fill any gaps or cracks with flexible, non-hardening caulk.
